Your teeth and gums, because they are treated by a dentist, and not a doctor, might seem like a separate health issue from the rest of your body. However, recent research has proven that a strong link exists between the two.
A recent study from the United States examined patients across four states. A total of 7500 people were involved in the study, held across four different states. It established that there is a strong correlation between cancer developments, and oral health.
Those patients with extremely poor dental and gum health, or those with no teeth, were found to have up to 30% higher chance of developing a range of cancers, including lung, prostate, and colon cancers in the years that followed. Given that this study also controlled for such habits as smoking, this correlation is far too strong to chalk up to coincidence.
At North Ryde Macquarie Park Dental, the dentists believe that constant vigilance is key to avoiding long-term problems in dental health and, as we know now, overall health as well. Ensure your teeth and gums stay strong and healthy by paying them a visit today.
