As part of our effort to help provide women and couples the best chance of successful pregnancy, Main Line Fertility is one of the first in the country to offer the EevaTM Test, a new technology designed to help select embryos with the highest developmental potential during in vitro fertilization (IVF).

The EevaTM Test is a non-invasive, predictive test that takes images of embryos every five minutes inside of an incubator to collect developmental information. It uses software to automatically measure embryo development and delivers an objective test result that can be used along with traditional morphology grading to select the best embryos to transfer.

In the traditional embryo grading process, embryos are removed from the incubator once per day and visually examined under a microscope and graded based on visual characteristics. Based on this grading, embryos are selected for transfer into the woman’s uterus. When there are several embryos that look similar, doctors can have a difficult decision to make in deciding which embryo or embryos to transfer. The EevaTM Test automates this process by providing additional information to aid in embryo selection.

The EevaTM Test received FDA clearance based on a study that showed when a panel of five embryologists used the EevaTM Test along with morphology, their ability to accurately predict embryo development increased by an average of 53 percent over traditional, morphological grading alone. a

“The significance of this new Eeva technology is that embryologists now can fast-forward and review a time-lapse video of embryo development that occurred over the few days after fertilization.” says Dr. Sharon Anderson PhD, Lab and Scientific Director at Main Line Fertility and adjunct Associate Professor at Drexel University College of Medicine. “Embryologists can now see exactly how the embryos were growing the entire time they were in the incubator, and then we can use the EevaTM Test to help select the best embryo/s for transfer to optimize the probability of pregnancy. In addition, our IVF patients like that they can take home a video of their embryos.”
