Chicago, Illinois: The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is pleased to announce it offers a two-year MDDO program for designers. The MDDO program has a 66-credit requirement and is a course-based program that helps develop the critical skills needed for object design.
Students of the program will be taught how to critically rethink the principles of object design and the ever-changing relationship between people, the world, objects and their specific contexts.
Unlike other programs that are focused on theory, the program prides itself in the idea of continuous experimental practice, and students of the MDDO program are known for employing various strategies and theories in the completion of their theses. Critical, commercial, social and speculative methods are most welcome and encouraged by the program.
The program is for people who understand objects mediate the lives of people daily, and it’s in the process of critical rethinking that new avenues of thought and creativity are unleashed.
The course aims to help its students expand their creative horizons so they may practice their agency as designers and artists. This is when objects cease to be simply objects and become social constructs worthy of speculation, experimentation and innovation.
The MDDO program is for students who have a strong background in 3D design, furniture design and other related fields.
