The chill of the winter season here in Sydney seems a far cry from the Mediterranean heat. In the south of France, the striking weather of the late summer leads to long, warm evenings, where people have long walked the fringes of the harbours. But in Cannes, this view is set to improve upon even this idyllic scene.
For the fortieth year, Europe’s largest in-water boat show will soon populate the cramped harbour of Cannes. Featuring yachts from around the world, this boat show brings a mix of sail and power, and serves as one of the main exhibition points for new models released by the world’s yacht builders.
The tight enclave of the harbour will have hardly any clear water to spare once every exhibitor takes their preplanned spot on the docks. From Overmarine, to Chris Craft and Beretta, there is no shortage of fibreglass and aluminium spectacles to take in here, across a huge range of different sizes.
One of the most exciting new entrants is the Absolute 58, the purported replacement for their 56 model. Featuring a wider beam and a taller structure, the small increase in length is made up for with a strikingly broader interior, along with upgrades to its power plant. This yacht will soon be joining the fleet at Sydney’s own Luxury Boat Syndicates, but you can get a sneak peek here.
It is tough not to be envious of the striking weather and even more outstanding views about to take place in Cannes, but as spring sets in here in Sydney, we can look forward to our own long summer on the blue water.
